Public Space.

RIZHSKY TRANSPORT HUB.

Concept of improvement

Public space near the Rizhskaya metro station in Moscow
Moscow | 2019
Purpose.

To create a space near the transport hub with a clear and convenient flow of movement, as well as rest and leisure areas.

Green island at the intersection of traffic flows.

Zone 1, located on Rizhskaya Square, is an island surrounded by a roadway. The communications of the new Rizhskaya station run underneath it, and the exit from the lobby is located there. The lobby exit will provide the shortest route to public transport stations—this is the primary transit function—but extensive green spaces, pavilions for relaxation and protection from the weather, and the return of the previously dismantled fountain are also planned. Thus, the area retains its historical function as an urban green square.
Zone 2 is part of the active transit area. The main route runs from the Rizhskaya metro station to the future MCD station concourse. Most of the area is paved with hard surfaces, interspersed with geometric green islands integrated into the paving.
